Tired of Pretending

The Game

Why do some people insist upon playing around with the lives of others just because they can? Is it that they do not have a life? Or, is it because they are small and their lives are so insignificant to them that the only way they can make a big splash in life is to make somebody miserable? The answer quite simply is... I don't know! What is known is that life is too short... If I spent every waking hour in the presence of my loved ones I would still feel as though I haven't spent enough time with them when I stand at the graveyard... life is just not long enough for me to indulge in a brain twisting game of manipulation. Like most people in our society, I get up and go to work to earn a living... not to make friends nor to make enemies... I don't go to work to please anybody their... I go to work to earn a living... not always because I enjoy what I am doing because it is very stressful work that can wreak havoc on ones nerves... I go to work to earn a living! So why can't people just... let me work? I am a very maticulous worker, I do what I am supposed to do to the best of my ability. Yet some supervisors, co-workers and associates are not satisfied unless they can, figuratively speaking, hide your stapler after you leave work in the evening or rig all of your pens on your desk to leak.

I Am Sick & Tired Of It All

People whispering in cubicles... Office doors closing with management behind them and we have to pretend we don't hear or see! Well, I am sick of it. I am tired of people who don't care about others. So what did I do about it... I stopped pretending to be deaf and blind. When the supervisor stated something that I had just heard them meet about behind closed doors... I said, Oh... and I agree with what Jill said just a moment ago in your office about... because... You see I sit by the Managers office which was actually a conference room and anything that is said in there, including telephone calls can be heard as clearly as if there was a microphone to the building PA. Before some of you start getting on your high horse thinking that I should tell them... I did and I have for 5 years... I know who is getting fired and why... I know when my bosses child was suspended from school and why... worst yet... I hear their sick and twisted plots they have with various employees and it makes me want to puke at the least and some days I just want to quit! Then there are the co-workers that come to work and take 8 hour breaks and work only for an hour a day. The people that are always trying to draw you into their mediocre insanity. If you make any type of eye contact with them all they want to do is cry about what a horrible job they have and how they want to quit... well do it and stop wasting my time... thank you and goodbye. Do I care that they are miserable? Yes! Do I want to hear about it when we should be working? Maybe if you are not a chronic whiner... but if you are always crying about the boo boo in your diaper... I'm just wondering when you are going to clean the crap up and stop using diapers. So what am I going to do?

My Course of Action

I am going to buy a large pack of batteries, keep my mp3 player charged up and my favorite music downloaded. I will always keep earplugs nearby and take all of my lunches and breaks... I talk to nobody and I'll buy as many lottery tickets that I can each month...loyally participate in the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes...In other words I am flushing all of the crap down the toilet, spraying air freshner, washing my hands thoroghly and then I will walk out of the sewage dump with my head up knowing that I have handled my business inspite of the smell.

I have never understood any of that stuff either. Why can't people just go to work and do their work?

ceounlimited,

It sounds like you have a good work ethic. Ultimately, that should pay off. If you have been at the job for a long time, and you don't feel appreciated, you should consider looking for a better job, where the work environment is more conducive to getting the work done.

Work ethic paid off a fews year back for me when 11 people out of our 12 were laid off. I enjoyed the peace and quite of the department after that. Enjoy your MP3!

Oh, that is a stressful environment. Unfortunately, that tends to be the case in mid to large size businesses. You have my sympathies.

Working alone is one of the reasons that I became a freelance writer....the boss can be bitchy, but other than that it's good. :)

Thank you for your support. I had a very stressful week and was ready to strangle some people with paper, ink and words... why not do it on hubpages? I really hope my hard work will pay off but the fact that I am in California right now and the budget still isn't signed doesn't help either. Oh Well... I... I will survive

Dude I can relate. I reentered the workforce last year after a divorce. I had been a stay at home mom for 27 years!! The behavior and ethics of the average workplace is disgusting. Multi tasking has been elevated to a level of absurdity. I want to be alone. ALONE i tell you. I have a strong work ethic and dont want to be a bitter old bitch at age 50 because of all the stress at work. But a lot of times I frankly dont give a damn because you work work WORK and its never enough to please them. Er...sorry....thanks for letting me vent.

absolutely wonderful! Voted up and all across. I sympathize with you on this. I used to be plagued by the pretenders (not the singing group) but people in church. Yes, church. This, the pretending, I would expect from people who are prone to greed, back stabbing in our society, but church? I have had my eyes opened. Quick.
